Oakland/University Park Historic District

Oakland Map

The boundaries of the Oakland/University Park Historic District are: Fillmore to the north, Van Buren to the south, Grand Avenue to 19th Avenue.

The significance of the Oakland/University Park is its ability to remain intact as downtown Phoenix continues to grow around it. The Oakland neighborhood’s working class roots are showcased in modest Bungalow and Spanish Colonial Revival houses. The residents’ strong ties with the Southern Pacific Railroad and other industrial concerns were important to the valley’s economic growth. Now, with the revitalization of Grand Avenue, Oakland/University Park is well-positioned to become the next big thing.
