Yesterday I walked around the corner to my neighborhood coffee shop, Shine Coffee, located on the Northwest corner of Central and Vernon Avenues. I was so happy when this little walk-up coffee bar moved into my neighborhood a year or so ago. Since then, the neighboring buildings on this property are being restored and renovated, one of which, is Shine Coffee’s lounge. The owners of this place are visionaries for sure. Yesterday was the first day of the kick-starter project to raise money to fund a new community pocket park that will be located smack dab in the middle of the property where Shine is located.
Yesterday I talked to Laryn Blok who, with her husband, owns Shine Coffee. She and worker Anthony were on hand to share their enthusiasm over the plans for the pocket park. This morning I passed by before they opened and low and behold, ground for the new pocket park is being broken today, way sooner than expected!
Laryn sent me a video about the project that I would like to share with you below. I would also like to encourage you to support this local business by buying coffee here and attending some of their great kick-starter events such as Yoga on Saturday mornings at 8 a.m. How about Bike to Work Fridays? Shine has come a long way from the days when it was housed in an airstream trailer!
Remember … support your local businesses!
